What is Aromatherapy and How do Essential Oils Benefit Us?

As a mom, I know how important it is to take care of ourselves, both physically and mentally. Between business or work, taking care of the kids, and trying to keep the house in order, it can be hard to find a moment of peace and relaxation. That's where aromatherapy comes in!

Let’s talk about what is aromatherapy and how do essential oils benefit us!

What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils, extracted from plants, to promote physical and emotional well-being. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years in various cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic properties.

Use it for Relaxation, Stress Relief and Sleep.

One of the main benefits of aromatherapy is its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. Inhaling certain essential oils, such as lavender, can help calm the mind and relieve feelings of stress and tension.

The scent of lavender has been shown to lower blood pressure and heart rate, making it the perfect oil to use when you need a moment of relaxation. Another benefit of aromatherapy is its ability to promote better sleep.

If you're like me and have trouble relaxing because of having so many things on your mind, being pregnant, etc., essential oils such as chamomile and lavender can be a lifesaver. These oils are known for their calming properties and have been used for centuries to promote more restful sleep.

That's why I created my Sleepytime Roll On blend. Made with therapeutic grade essential oils and diluted with fractionated coconut oil safe for pregnant woman and even babies & children. Roll in on your wrists, feet, or behind your ears before bed and let it do it's magic!

Use it for Pain Relief & Nausea.

In addition to reducing stress and promoting better sleep, aromatherapy can also help with pain relief. Essential oils like ginger and peppermint have anti-inflammatory properties that can help relieve headaches, muscle pain, joint pain, and even nausea! (Shout out to all my pregnant mamas!) These oils are also great for massages, as they can help soothe sore muscles and promote relaxation.

My Anti-Nausea Roll On blend is made with ginger essential oils and guess what? It smells delicious! When I first started making it the smell reminded me of a gingerbread cookie. Yum! And best of all, it really did help my nausea since I was in the first trimester which was.. not so fun, ha!

Use it as a mood booster.

Aromatherapy can also be used to boost your mood and energy levels. Oils like lemon, orange, and bergamot have been shown to improve moods and increase energy levels.

These oils are perfect for using in the morning to help start your day off on the right foot. One of the great things about aromatherapy is that it's easy to incorporate into your daily routine.

You can use essential oils in a variety of ways, including: Adding a few drops to a diffuser will fill your home with a pleasant scent. Add a few drops to your bath water for a relaxing soak. Massaging a few drops into your skin Adding a few drops to a spray bottle with water and misting it around your home or office. Or just rolling it on your wrists with a carrier oil and inhaling the wonderful smells.
My Happytime Roll On, a blend of orange and vanilla essential oils has to be my favorite. The smell lifts my mood and energy so much and even my husband loves it, he says it reminds him of an orange creamsicle and I couldn't agree more.

Use it as a Natural Decongestant & Cough Suppressant.

Aromatherapy is also a great way to improve respiratory health. Essential oils like eucalyptus, peppermint, and tea tree have antiseptic and decongestant properties that can help relieve the symptoms of colds, flu, and allergies. These oils can be used in a diffuser to help clear nasal passages and reduce coughing and congestion.

Although these oils can help, I stay away from tea tree oil since it can be dangerous to pets and peppermint oil can actually reduce milk supply for breastfeeding women. (If you follow me on Instagram, you know not only am I pregnant but also still breastfeeding my 2 year old.)

After being pregnant and/or breastfeeding for the last 3 years straight, I've had to stay away from over the counter medicines whenever I caught a cold. So, essential oils to the rescue! My Cough + Cold Roll On is made with a high quality blend of Eucalyptus Radiata oils and fractionated coconut oil. Not to be confused with Eucalyptus Globulus which is actually unsafe and toxic for children under the age of 12. Like everything else I make, I wanted it to be safe for ALL, pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants & children.

Add aromatherapy to your skin care routine.

Another benefit of aromatherapy is its ability to improve skin health. Essential oils like lavender, tea tree, and geranium have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe and heal skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis. These oils can be used in a variety of ways, such as in a facial steam, added to a carrier oil for a massage, or mixed with water for a toner.

In conclusion, aromatherapy is a natural and holistic approach to promoting physical and emotional well-being. With so many benefits, it's easy to see why more and more people are turning to essential oils to help improve their health and quality of life. Whether you're looking to reduce stress, promote better sleep, or boost your mood and energy levels, essential oils have you covered.

Indulge in the power of nature and elevate your self-care routine with the benefits of essential oils. Trust us, you won't regret it! ❤️🌸
